A 23-YEAR-OLD Ballarat man has been interviewed following a double fatality at Linton on Saturday.

Buninyong man Timothy Vawdrey-Smith, 22, and Jade Dyson, 21, were killed after the Ford utility they were passengers in hit a tree.

The accident happened about 5km east of Linton on the Glenelg Hwy.

Melbourne Crash Investigation Unit officers were late yesterday afternoon travelling to Ballarat to examine the scene.

A police spokeswoman said the man was interviewed at the weekend and was released pending further inquiries.

Ballarat Traffic Management Unit Senior Sergeant Pat Cleary said: "The circumstances are extremely tragic and they being investigated by the MCIU, which will be looking at all factors that may have caused the accident."

Meanwhile, in a separate crash at the weekend a 36-year-old Daylesford man was charged for exceeding the .05 blood alcohol limit and other traffic offences.

Daylesford Police Sergeant Andrew Guiney said the man was allegedly involved in a collision with a taxi about 1.45am Sunday.

3:26 PM AEDT | THE real stars of the Great Victorian Bike Ride are the old folks, the people aged 70-plus. The ride is full of them, nuggetty men and women quietly peddling into the wind and occasional rain, ploughing slowly up hills, seemingly unstoppable, giving hope to us all.
