WHO would abandon these puppies?
These four, very cute, six-week-old Jack Russell cross pups were found dumped in a box at Sebastopol's HR Power Park on Monday night.
Luckily, they were taken to Ballarat Family Pet Care Clinic, where staff members spent time with them yesterday before they were taken to the RSPCA.
There is nothing known about the background of the three males and one female, except they are healthy, active pups.
The RSPCA will look after them for eight days, and if no owner claims them, they will be put up for adoption.
Ballarat Family Pet Care Clinic vet Dr Holly Cathels said it was important people realised there were places people could take their unwanted animals where they could be given a loving home.
"Leaving them in a box in a park is completely inappropriate," Dr Cathels said.
"Any vet and the RSCPA are entirely happy to help people with pups."
But, she said people were sometimes embarrassed at leaving their unwanted animals, with the financial burden often being a main reason.
"Puppies need to be vaccinated, wormed and desexed, " she said.
"These puppies may also have been a result of an unplanned mating, but there are places where they can go and be looked after."
Practice manager Lyn Dyer said her staff had already wanted to adopt the cute puppies .
She said they had a fabulous temperament, and were "real goers", which would suit an energetic household.
"These pups have loved all the attention they've received, and are very socialised," Mrs Dyer said.
"As sweet and healthy as they are, these pups will go to a good home and be very looked after."
