Darley to focus on form

HEADING towards finals, it helps to carry the best possible form.

For RegionalOne Ballarat Football League premiership favourite Darley, tomorrow's match against Ballarat at Darley Park is the last chance to establish that momentum.

Darley faces a potential finals opponent tomorrow before taking a one week break due to the bye.

Coach Gary Learmonth said the result itself was not the most important thing (the Devils are top, three games clear of East Point in second), but a return to some better football was.

"It is our last home-and-away game so the players need to play well individually and collectively before the finals start," Learmonth said.

"Fortunately we are up against another finalist so it is a good test. The result is probably not the be-all and end-all. It is about how we're playing. If we play well then the result looks after itself.

"I think it (the forthcoming bye) is a fantastic thing. We've had two breaks during the year and been able to come back each time, and it's a good chance for guys to freshen up."

Darley did enough to shake Lake Wendouree last Saturday without playing near its best football. The Devils won despite being beaten out of the middle.

The return of Brad Miller, however, makes the Devils a far tougher opponent tomorrow.

"I think (Miller's) form is up there with anyone in the league. He is one of our best players so he makes a big difference both as a player and as a leader," Learmonth said.

"We need to work on our stoppages. It is the second week in a row we have lost there, but it is encouraging we were still able to win those games.

"We played well in parts but our accountability is not so good. We didn't do enough when Lake Wendouree had the football.

"It re-inforces the point that on any day anyone can beat anyone. We're sitting on top but Lake Wendouree in sixth pushed us and it shows we have to continue to work hard."

Ballarat returns fresher after the bye, with Joe Otto, Brad Anderson and Sam Cameron all coming into the team.

PREDICTION: Darley by 14 points.

3:26 PM AEDT | THE real stars of the Great Victorian Bike Ride are the old folks, the people aged 70-plus. The ride is full of them, nuggetty men and women quietly peddling into the wind and occasional rain, ploughing slowly up hills, seemingly unstoppable, giving hope to us all.
