NORTH Ballarat wants a home final if it finishes in the top two in the Victorian Football League.
The Selkirk Roosters are lobbying AFL Victoria to have what will be their first home final in eight years.
North Ballarat has hosted just two finals since entering the VFL in 1996.
The Roosters defeated Port Melbourne by 16 points in a 1999 elimination final and crushed Carlton by 60 points in a 2000 qualifying final.
They went on to reach the grand final in each of those seasons.
North Ballarat is a win clear at the top of the VFL ladder with three home and away rounds remaining and well placed to claim the minor premiership.
The Roosters face eighth-placed Northern Bullants at AUSTAR Arena on Saturday, Tasmania (14th) in Hobart and Sandringham (ninth) at Sandringham.
North Ballarat Football Club chief executive officer Mark Patterson is hopeful AFL Victoria will make a decision early next week.
He said with the Lexton Plains Football League grand final scheduled to be played at AUSTAR Arena the same weekend as the opening week of the VFL finals, it was important that a decision be made as early as possible.
"We've talked to AFL Victoria about the time frame.
If the Roosters get a home final - they favour Sunday, September 7 - the LPFL grand final scheduled for September 6 will have to be relocated.
Mr Patterson said the playing surface would only be able to cope with one day of football for the weekend.
He said North Ballarat was already liaising with the LPFL on the matter.
Mr Patterson said while there was no firm policy on giving the top two teams a home final, there was a general understanding that teams finishing first and second were a reasonable chance to get a home final.
"My gut feeling is that we have a good chance," he said.
North Ballarat is unbeaten at AUSTAR Arena this season.
